Side note: Last summer, I wrote a four part blog for my agency. The first part introduced the three major generations in today’s workforce and each generation was meant to have it’s own character infographic like the one below. As this post has been sitting in the drafts since September and the artist who drew the character no longer works for my firm, I have given up hope that this series will ever be finished/posted.

That said, I’m posting the first one here. First, because I enjoyed working on it and second because I feel like Sarah Lee, the designer, deserves recognition for her work. That said, enjoy 1/4th of what was supposed to be a fun & informative blog series.

Meet the Millenials

Born 1980-1994 Currently 18-32 years old

Generation Y goes by a lot of names: The Millennials, the Echo Boomers, the Eighties Babies and so on. But one thing they can’t be called is irrelevant. According to the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2010 The Millennials accounted for nearly 25% of the United States’ population and labor force. And that was two years ago when the younger end of the generation was still in high school!

How to reach them:

Get thee to a mobile platform. The Millennial are transacting from wherever they are, your business needs to meet them there.

Tread carefully. Be authentic. They’re not a very forgiving demographic. If you’re too intrusive, don’t provide exceptional service or try too hard, they’ll shut you out…and their entire twitter following will know about it instantly.

Fan-power. Offer them sneak peeks, exclusive content, special deals or a unique experience and you can have their love forever. Plus, Millennial spread the word about the brands they love. Win one Millennial and others are sure to follow.
