The Absence of Creative Spaces

Creative Spaces On Me Natalie Mueller Comments Off on The Absence of Creative Spaces

I wanted to take a moment to explain my utter failure at keeping up with the Creative Spaces series for the last two months. I am human garbage, the absolute worst, and I hope you will all forgive me.

I have some interviews in the pipeline and hope to write them up and dazzle you with them all soon, but first, a brief exploration of my pitiful excuses…

SEPTEMBER: Whatever, USA

I had long anticipated skipping September’s edition of creative spaces because I knew I would be traveling for work. In reality, I found a new creative space of my own…an airplane. Guys, when you don’t want to pay for in flight WiFi and have a 4 hour flight to try and prep for a crazy week of work, you get SO much done. All I really needed in a creative space was an uncomfortable chair, excruciating timeline and regular drink service! Who knew? Also, I have to give credit for the nice man who offered his tray table for my drink, otherwise I’d have likely spilled all over myself and my laptop.

For the first nine days of September, I was in Crested Butte, CO for Bud Light’s Whatever, USA event. Having poured much of my summer into preparing for this event, I was anxious-terrified-excited to get the whole thing underway. Some projects you never get to see come to fruition. Lord knows I’ve written many-a-script that hasn’t gotten produced. But, with a live event, you know it is happening and you know exactly when it will happen. It can be a crazy stressful whirlwind, but it is intensely rewarding. My role on the project involved everything from concept and event development to writing, casting and directing a group of characters to physically running events and problem solving onsite. It’s one thing to see your work produced, it’s another to experience your work all around you.

So, that’s my sad excuse for September.

OCTOBER: Life & My own creative space

Now that I’m actually working entirely from home, one thing has become abundantly clear: my desk and office need some love.

I had an interview lined up for October’s post but we weren’t going to be able to chat until after the first Tuesday of the month, which is when I usually post the finished product. So, I’ve opted to use that subject for November and spend the remainder of October making plans for my own creative space. Right now, my desk is a mishmosh of random stuff, my monitors barely fit on my desktop, I’m mid-laptop upgrade and I have more nerf guns than I have space to store them. With wedding planning in full swing, I may not have the time to actually put my new space together, but I hope to at least collect the items necessary to get the job done.

That said, if anyone has an excess of frames, I could use them. All sizes and levels of quality welcome.

So there you have it, I’m the worst, but at least I’m aware of it. I hope to get a new creative spaces blog up soon and maybe eventually a feature on my space…if I ever have the time to make it what I want.

More soon,

Natalie
